Questions to Ask an Adoption Agency

At Adoption & Beyond, we work closely with prospective birth parents in Kansas and Missouri hoping to find a good home for their child.  We aren’t here to judge anyone, but to provide information and solutions to guide you through your journey. We want you to know, that you are not alone.

Placing a baby with a family longing for a child of their own is an amazing feat. As you consider all your options, you may find yourself with questions. At Adoption & Beyond, we strive to help all our clients thoroughly understand this process before they embark on it. Here is a list of some of the questions you may want to ask if you’re pregnant and considering adoption.

What if I Change My Mind?

Adoption is a huge decision and not one to be taken lightly. We understand how difficult it can be to make this decision and it’s not uncommon to have second thoughts.

Your baby is yours. Therefore, all the decisions in the adoption process are completely up to you. If you decide you aren’t as ready as you thought you were, we will never try to convince you otherwise.

Can I See My Baby After I Give Birth?

For some birth parents, the thought of seeing their baby after birth is too difficult. For others, taking care of their baby while in the hospital b is important and wanted. The amazing thing about designing your adoption plan is that you are entirely in charge of how much or little contact you have at the hospital with your child following the birth.

Will I Be on My Own Following the Adoption?

The emotions you feel before and during the adoption process don’t disappear overnight. We are here to support you throughout this entire process. This includes the time following the adoption of your child. We can help you find resources for further support as needed.

Adoption & Beyond established an education scholarship fund in 2018 as well to assist birth parents who wish to further their educational goals following the successful placement of their child.  You can learn more here.

Can I Speak to Previous Birth Mothers About Their Adoption Experience?

It is so important to talk with someone who understands what you are going through. Who else to better understand than a birth mother who has traveled the path of adoption. We have birth mothers, who would be willing to talk with you and share their stories. You can also find real-life stories from birth parents under the “Birth Parents Stories” section on this guide.

How Do I Know My Child is Being Well Cared For?

It’s completely normal to worry about the continuing care of your child once they are placed for adoption. One way we reassure birth parents of their child’s wellbeing is through our extremely thorough screening of families. You can also keep in touch with the adoptive family, or request letters and photos of your child as part of your adoption arrangement.
