FAQ on Adoption Series: Is Placement A Lack of Love?

Adoption, Birth Mothers

Doesn’t placing my child for adoption mean I don’t love him or her?

Placing a child for adoption is the most selfless act a mother could ever be a part of.  It requires a level of heroic strength to place the needs of a child above your own. It is only because you love that child so much that you want to give him or her something better.  That something can be very individualized…more opportunities, financial stability, a two parent home, maturity, a better life than you can provide at the moment, etc.  It doesn’t mean you are not or cannot be a good mother.  It means that this isn’t the right time.  Absolutely, without a doubt, you can place a child for adoption and still love him or her.
