At Adoption & Beyond, one thing we’ve found to be helpful for expecting parents and hopeful adoptive parents who are exploring adoption is hearing real adoption stories from real families. By seeing how their lives have been changed by adoption, it’s a powerful way to educate people about adoption’s benefits.

We’re thankful to have had the honor of hearing Brittani and Esteban’s adoption story and how life has looked to them after the adoption of their daughter, Lucy. Here’s their story.

What does life after adoption look like for us?

Well, it has been the most incredible life-changing experience. We got approved and our adoption profile went live the week of Thanksgiving in 2019. The 2nd week of December, we were told that it was going to take 15-18 months to get matched with a potential birth family. We got a call on December 30, 2019 that we had been matched.

Our life was changed forever on that day.

Lucille Fable was born at 7:46 on December 30, 2019 in Atlanta, GA. It was supposed to be a closed adoption, but once the day came that Lucy’s birth mother could not change her mind anymore, she had the social worker ask if she could meet us. We agreed, but we were so nervous. It was a beautiful meeting. We also got to meet Lucy’s birth grandparents. This took place while we were still in Atlanta waiting on ICPC clearance.

Since then, we have taken Lucy to meet them in Atlanta once. They are a wonderful family. We do expect that we will stay in contact with them. Lucy is now one and moving everywhere, and she’s about to start talking. We have all of her toys all around the house, and at night – once she goes to bed – they remind us of just how sweet a gift we have.

We are overwhelmed just by how wonderful this experience has been.

I quit my full-time job to be with Lucy and now just work part time with our adoption attorney. Esteban is working on becoming a manager at FedEx. We have had an army of family and friends surround us and help us. We could not have done it without them. We are blessed!!! One thing I will say is that with adoption, it could be slow and it could be fast. But it is for sure in God’s perfect timing – not ours!!!
