You’ve done it! You have decided to adopt. You’ve found the adoption agency you want to use and you have officially started the process. Congratulations! Now, it’s time for the hard part, the dreaded home study. The goal of the home study is to make sure you, your family, and your home are capable of accepting the responsibility of a child. This process protects both the children and the adopting parents. I know we can all agree is a good thing! But it also comes with a lot of pressure to get it right.

Many families underestimate the time and level of effort that goes into a home study. They sometimes work ahead before getting the home study forms from their agency or they rush through it without taking the time to fill it out honestly and accurately. This step in the adoption process is crucial for establishing an open and honest relationship with the adoption professional, making sure the adoption is safe and smooth, and it even plays a role in preparing adopting parents.

So, what kind of questions will a home study dig into? What types of situations would disqualify you from adopting? Join me as I answer these questions and more during an interview with My Adoption Coach, Amanda.
