1. God Found Us You, by Lisa Dawn Bergren. Mama Fox longed for a baby, and then along came Little Fox. Great for Christian families.
2. Horace, by Holly Keller. Horace is spotted. He is cared for by his parents, who are striped. Horace feels different, so he decides to discover his roots. A great book for children who may feel “different” because of their adoption.
3. How I Became a Big Brother, by Dave Moore. A little boy is becoming a big brother, but his parents are adopting his new sibling. This is a great book for parents looking to introduce their biological children to the idea of an adopted sibling.
4. I Wished For You, by Marianne Richmond. The book begins with: “Mama,” said Barley. “Tell me again how I’m your wish come true.” Charming, heart-felt, and relatable for anyone who felt anxious during the adoption process.
5. Rosie’s Family; An Adoption Story, by Lori Rosove. Rosie is a beagle who was adopted by schnauzers. She feels different from her brother, who is the biological child of her adoptive parents. This story answers many questions that adopted children sometimes have.
6. Shades of People, by Shelley Rotner. This sweet book explains how people come in all shades of colors. This is a great book for multi-racial families.
7. The Teazles’ Baby Bunny, by Susan Bagnall. About a pair of rabbits who adopt a bunny. Provides a small introduction to the topic of adoption, great for toddlers.
8. Why Was I Adopted?, by Carole Livingston. Covers all different kinds of adoption, as well as why some children are adopted.
