What is an Adoptive Home Study?
A home study is a big first step, and we’ll help you navigate the process every step of the way.
The adoption home study is the pivotal first step in the adoption process, and it’s a big deal! It’s like the green light that officially kicks off your adoption process. But what exactly does it entail?
Think of it as a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a friendly and caring adoption agency. The process includes evaluating important documents, such as criminal background checks and clearances, financial information, and health records; and performing an in-home visit from with your personal social worker, which consists of interviews with both adoptive parents and a home tour, (but don’t worry we won’t be pulling out our white gloves). We’re here to ensure that you as an adopting family are ready to welcome your new little family member into your life!
All this paperwork and poking around might seem overwhelming, but fear not! Our team’s unique step-by-step system and positive attitude ensure the process can be smooth sailing.

We're Happy You're Here!
Here’s a little bit about us:
I’m Steffany, and I founded Adoption & Beyond, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, in 1998. I, along with each member of our staff, have been both personally and professionally impacted by adoption, and many of us have been through the home study process ourselves.
As a non-profit, Hague Accredited child-placing agency, we work diligently to uphold ethical values and transparency in everything we do, while always keeping the child’s best interests at heart. It’s our privilege to assist approximately 100 families per year with their home study process.

Adoptive Home Study FAQs
We want to make sure you have all of the information you need for your adoption journey.
How much does a home study cost?
Adopting a child is an investment of both the heart and your finances. We believe you deserve 100% transparent fees at every stage. As a private, non-profit 501(c) 3 Child Placement Agency, we strive to keep costs as low as possible. And financial funding may be available for your child’s adoption!
At Adoption & Beyond, the cost of a home study includes a $500 application fee and $1,500 for the initial home study report.
What is the Initial Home Study Report?
A home study is an educational tool used by our team at Adoption & Beyond to prepare you, the hopeful adoptive parent, to adopt a child. It is an assessment process to determine if your family is prepared to care for a child in a safe, nurturing, and healthy environment. An approved home study is required to adopt a child. We are available to perform domestic, international, private, embryo and foster care adoptive home study assessments.

What does the home study report include?
The home study process concludes with a written report that your provider creates about your family. While every state has its own set of requirements, generally, a home study report includes:
- Family background, financial statements, and references
- Education and employment
- Relationships and social life
- Daily life routines
- Parenting experiences
- Details about your home and neighborhood
- Readiness and reasons about your wanting to adopt
- References and background checks
Why do I need to be home study approved?
You must be home study-approved in order to adopt. This is required in all 50 states.
The primary purpose of a home study is to safeguard the best interests of the child. Ensuring their safety, happiness, and overall well-being is at the heart of every home study. A home study determines your suitability to provide a loving, stable, and secure home for a child and is a thorough evaluation of the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of your living environment.
Additionally, home studies have a direct impact on the outcomes of adoptions. They help match a child with your family, and provide the foundation for a successful and loving adoptive environment. Read more…
