Hello! We are Donovan (DJ) and Amy from the great state of Missouri.
We appreciate you and that you're taking the time to explore adoption.
We have been married for four years, faced many challenges, joys, hardships and successes. Through it all we have felt the call to grow our family and we are excited to do so through adoption. We feel affirmed by God, our families and our community to journey through adoption and bring our child home. Our desire is to show our child the unconditional love of God and have them grow-up in a community surrounded by faith.
Adoption has always held a special place in our hearts. DJ was adopted at a young age, 18 months, and has been able to witness first hand the the love from being welcomed into a family and the loving sacrifice from his biological family. Amy has been enamored by adoption through countless relationships, experiences, and doors that God has opened. We know there is a lot of uncertainty in this adoption process but we are certain that a child out there somewhere is going to receive our unconditional love.
Please know that you are loved unconditionally by a God bigger than this world. Your story is intertwined with a grander story being written each day. We pray for peace for you and your family.
Hello! We're glad you're here! Here is a little about myself.
I was born in Agana Heights, Guam and later arrived to the US of A where I was later adopted around 18 months. Mom and dad (adoptive parents) raised us around Kansas City, MO which became home for me. I have a brother, whom is also adopted, and two half-sisters! Within the last few years I've been able engage in meaningful relationships with my two half-sisters and biological mom.
After graduating high school, I attended Lindenwood University, briefly, and then transferred Northwest Missouri State University which became my home away from home. While at Northwest I received two degrees, one in financial services and the other in financial management (ironically during the Great Recession). This is also where I happened to meet Amy through some mutual friends and some awesome dance skills. In college I really started to evaluate my life and how Christ played into my story.
Upon graduating college I transitioned from a part-time position to full-time position with a small investment management firm. This position proved to be instrumental as I learned how to serve clients well and develop as a financial planner that would later lead me to start my own business which has been challenging and fulfilling.
When I'm not working I'm typically volunteering with Young Life. This has been fulfilling because I've been able to share Christ's love with high school kids all while serving alongside Amy. I also love spending quality time with friends. I enjoy reading, learning, and staying active in many ways.
As we look toward the future we aren't sure about very much. What we do know is that Jesus has never stopped pursuing us and never will. That is love. We also know that God designed us to be a relational people. Love God, love people. Finally, we know that we've been called to be parents and to adopt a child into our family as God has adopted us into His. If we can love God, love people, and love each other I'd say that is a great life and a great story.
My name is Amy and I was born and raised in Nebraska with my older brother, mom and dad. I grew up with a passion for dance and also running (short distances). Throughout my years in high school I was heavily involved in track, DECA and Young Life which is a relational non-profit ministry that I now work for.
As I grew older, I became increasingly more aware of what truly matters in life and continue to grow in my faith in the Lord.
After high school I attended college at Northwest Missouri State University. Throughout my time there I found myself drawn more to the ministry of Young Life and coupling my education with serving in a ministerial role. I graduated with a degree in Child and Family Studies and minor in Deaf Studies. Upon graduating I began my full-time job working as part of the ministry of Young Life in Missouri.
Our town is a big area with a small town vibe. What keeps us here is our ministry but also our community of friends. We are extremely passionate about sharing our lives with others and have found a group of friends who feel the same. We attend church together, have a heart for the ministry of adolescents and serve in Young Life, even vacation together. Since our families live outside of town, it is pretty incredible to have a group of people who are willing to step into that role and love each other well.
I also have a passion and gift for crafting. I love to crochet and make old things new. Recently, I have taken my crafts to local shows and began sharing them with people in the community. I love interacting with customers and making specialty orders for them and their friends.
As we dream about the future, I know that adoption is meant to be part of our story. I'm extremely passionate about bringing a child into our home, for them to be surrounded by people who love the Lord and to be loved by an incredible community. I knows this next chapter of life will be full of joy but also challenging and I'm anxiously excited for what is to come.
