Attorney Expenses - Expenses approximately - $3,000-$5,000
- Family will need to retain an adoption attorney and be responsible for the Prospective Birth Parent(s)' attorney costs. The cost for Family's attorney is generally $1,500-$2,500 (non-contested adoption) and for the Prospective Birth Parent(s)' approximately $750-$1,250 (each). These fees are paid directly to the respective attorneys.
Medical Expenses - $0-$10,000
- If the Birth Mother has Medicaid or private insurance, her pregnancy and delivery expenses are usually covered.
- Baby's medical expenses might be covered by Medicaid or the adopting parent's medical insurance. Adoption & Beyond cannot require a Birth Mother to use her insurance or Medicaid for the baby's medical expenses.
- Any medical bills not covered for the Birth Mother or the baby by Medicaid or by the Birth Parent or Family' medical insurance will be an out-of-pocket expense for Family.
- Payment is due when medical bills arrive. On occasion, the medical provider will bill Adoption & Beyond or the attorney directly; these bills will be forwarded to Family for payment. Some medical bills may arrive after the entry of the final decree of adoption; however, the adopting parents are still responsible for the medical bills regardless of the date of billing. If the medical facility involved calls for payment, the Family's contact information will be released for billing purposes.
- Paternity testing may be needed for an adoption situation on a case-by-case basis. This expense is not the responsibility of Adoption & Beyond.
Pregnancy Related Living Expenses - $0-$5,000
- The agency or the attorney will make every effort possible to identify the anticipated reasonable living expenses. Families may place a cap on these expenses if necessary.
- Fees should be paid directly to the vendor (grocery store and/or landlord, etc.) as expenses occur.
- If a Prospective Birth Mother decides to parent her child, the expenses paid are considered a gift and cannot be legally recovered.
